The Capital Chapter started off the new year with a wonderful meeting on January 30, with 26 attendees--including 7 new members! Two lucky winners received a $100 voucher toward their ACE registration fee: Glenda Ripley, CMT, and Sarah Sielbeck. We will be drawing a total of 8 more winners over our next 3 meetings so make plans to attend! If you're not a current Capital Chapter member, no problem! You can renew your membership or join at the meeting to be eligible for the drawing. (Read more about membership at the end of this newsletter.) View the complete Capital Chapter 2010 meeting schedule and join us!
The Capital Chapter is very pleased to offer our members the opportunity to win a $100 voucher toward the ACE registration fee. The voucher can be used toward the standard (full) registration fee or even just a one-day registration fee. The Capital Chapter encourages its members and all MTs in Texas to attend ACE--the AHDI 32nd Annual Convention & Expo--which will be held in Austin this year for the first time. Attendees will enjoy wonderful speakers, educational sessions, an exhibit hall packed with employers and vendors, and numerous networking opportunities. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend ACE at the Austin Hilton August 4-7. View the ACE Registration Form.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Come to our March 13 meeting! |
You're invited to attend our next Capital Chapter meeting on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m.-11:45 a.m. at Seton Medical Center in Austin. We have a full agenda and our special guest speaker will be Christina Tusa. Christine's presentation will include tips on preventing repetitive stress injuries--and we can always use information that will help us with neck, back, shoulder, and wrist problems. Wear comfortable/casual clothes because Christine will also show us some low-impact exercises.
Meeting attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in the letter-writing campaign for the Advocacy Summit (see more info below). View the complete meeting agenda. There is no charge to attend. Bring along an MT friend or MT student!
We will hold a drawing at the end of the meeting to award two lucky members with a $100 voucher toward the ACE registration fee!
Join us for lunch after the meeting at Santa Rita Cantina--across 38th Street in 26 Doors Shopping Center.

AHDI Advocacy Summit - Capitol Hill |
|
Let your voice be heard!
If you can't travel to Washington D.C. to participate in this year's AHDI/MTIA Advocacy Summit (March 23-25), you can make sure your voice/opinion is heard by submitting letters to be delivered to your legislators. Writing a letter is a great way for each of us to participate in advocacy and support our fellow MTs who will be on Capitol Hill. With all the technological and regulatory changes facing the Health IT sector (including medical transcription), it is particularly important this year that we support advocacy efforts to secure a viable and successful future for medical transcription and healthcare documentation professionals.
Attendees at our March 13 meeting will have a chance to print and sign their own letters to their legislators. A "model" letter will be available to utilize/edit. We will provide more information to attendees prior to the meeting so everyone can come prepared. The Capital Chapter will gather all the letters at the meeting and mail them together in one big envelope!
You can find all the information about the letter-writing campaign here. Just follow the simple instructions to make sure your elected officials hear from you! A sample letter (template) is provided and you can use/edit it as you see fit. Both AHDI members and non-members are encouraged to submit letters. Everyone involved in healthcare documentation should let their voice be heard!
